Why this site exists
Closeness Lab is an independent, judgment-free guide to sexual wellness and couples’ intimacy products. We started it because shopping in this category is full of hype, porous “novelty” products, and very little honest, plain-English guidance. Our goal is simple: help adults make informed, body-safe choices without embarrassment or spin.
Who we are
- Alex Hart — founder and lead writer of Closeness Lab. Drawing on years in a long-term relationship and a research-first approach, they write the honest, judgment-free guidance couples rarely get in this category — every guide is checked against manufacturer specs, app-store ratings, published owner reviews and clinical sources, following our published review methodology.
- Closeness Lab is operated by an independent individual publisher — not a company — currently a team of one.
- We’re a small, independent operation. As expert contributors and reviewers join, they’ll be credited here by name with their credentials.
What we stand for
- Body-safe first. We only recommend non-porous, body-safe materials and flag products that hide their material.
- Honest reviews. We follow our published review methodology and the FTC’s rules on honest reviews — no paid or fake reviews, no suppressing criticism.
- Non-explicit, inclusive, judgment-free. We write for adults 18+ in a respectful, educational register.
- Independence. The site is designed to be funded by affiliate links rather than advertising, sponsored posts or paid placements — see our Affiliate Disclosure. No article currently carries an affiliate link, and when one does, commission will never change our recommendations.
