Affiliate Disclosure
The short version: Closeness Lab is built to be reader-supported through affiliate links. No page on this site carries one today. If that ever changes, any such link will be labelled as one where it appears — and if you click it and make a purchase, we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. Whatever we link to, using our link would never make it cost you more.
How it works
When we recommend a product, we may link to a retailer or brand through an affiliate programme — for example, networks such as Impact, CJ Affiliate or Awin. If you buy through that link, the retailer may pay us a small percentage of the sale. This is a common way independent content sites fund their work.
How affiliate relationships affect our content — they don’t
- We choose which products to feature based on our published review methodology — research-based at launch, and we say so whenever a review involves hands-on testing — not on commission rates. The same rule governs the ranked and “best of” guides we publish: commission plays no part in which products make a list, or in what order they appear. See our review methodology →.
- We include products we consider worth recommending even when they don’t offer an affiliate program, and we leave out products we don’t rate, regardless of commission.
- A commission never buys a better review, a higher ranking, or the removal of criticism.
Where you’ll see disclosures
In line with the U.S. FTC’s endorsement guides (16 CFR Part 255) and the UK ASA/CAP rules, our policy is to place a clear disclosure at the top of every article that contains affiliate links, and next to affiliate buttons where relevant, with “Ad” labelling for UK readers where required. No article currently contains affiliate links — this is the standard we’ll hold ourselves to as soon as one does.
